In May 2019, ipcenter senior experts Georg Richter and Andreas Polsterer met with partners at the University of Kragujevac/Serbia, to hold meetings on potential cooperation in matters of sustainable regional development, urban planning, skill development strategies and current educational and economic challenges in the region.
The workshop session (2 days) was part of the BACID-financed project “Sustainable Cities” and focused on discussing and finding potential areas of common interest, where Kragujevac region could benefit from innovative and tailor-made training measures, e.g. in the areas of mechatronics, metal processing, entrepreneurship and digital skills. Multiple meetings were held with our partners from the Faculty of Engineering (Department of Energy and Process Engineering), Davor Koncalovic, Dubravka Zivkovic and Jovana Milenkovic to exchange ideas and discuss local development and social-economic inclusion needs, and how to address them by developing and implementing internationally funded pilot projects.
The project team also met with Nenad Popovic, head of the local Regional Development Agency, to discuss specific challenges in the region like lack of skilled workers, insufficient cooperation between companies and educational institutions and industry sectors with perspective for future development.
